Masayoshi Takanaka’s legendary RAINBOW GOBLINS STORY concert—performed at Nippon Budokan on March 10–11, 1981—is finally available as a standalone audio release.
This is a valuable recording that captures the entirety of the stage performance on the release day of Takana's album "The Rainbow Goblins," which is particularly popular both domestically and internationally, and is a work that has been eagerly awaited worldwide.
- First Press Limited Edition
- 180g Heavyweight Vinyl: Clear Lime Yellow Vinyl, Clear Red Vinyl, Clear Blue Vinyl
- A booklet filled with photographs capturing the fantastical stage performance.
- Mastering & Analog Cutting: Alex Wharton (Abbey Road Studios London)
- Liner Notes: Masayoshi Kondo (Music Writer), Yoshinobu Maruyama (Kitty Artists Masayoshi Takanaka's Manager at the time)
The first half featured a full live performance of the concept album Nijidennsetsu THE RAINBOW GOBLINS, inspired by Ul de Rico’s picture book, followed by a set of Takanaka’s hit songs.
The show was known for its spectacular staging: a massive rainbow‑colored neon sign, cutting‑edge laser effects, and seven musicians dressed in goblin‑themed colors. Takanaka appeared in a yellow jumpsuit with rainbow‑dyed hair, playing his iconic rainbow‑metallic Yamaha SG.
To celebrate the concert’s 45th anniversary, the performance has been revived with high‑quality sound. The vinyl edition includes three clear‑colored LPs—lime yellow, red, and blue—evoking Takanaka's rainbow-colored Yamaha SG guitars used in the first part of the show. A photo-filled booklet and mastering by Alex Wharton (Abbey Road Studios) complete the release, with liner notes by Masayoshi Kondo and Yoshinobu Maruyama.
