Ryo Fukui: In New York (Pure Vinyl Disc/180g Heavyweight Vinyl)
Pickup currently unavailable
2026 release. The record is made with luxuriously uncolored virgin vinyl, completely free of coloring agents such as carbon, which can affect sound quality. Made entirely from high-purity straight vinyl chloride, the record weight has been increased to 180g, achieving stable rotation and a rich sound field. The 180g heavyweight/pure vinyl specification allows you to enjoy a refined sound image.
With a confident touch, a core of swing, and emotion permeating his dynamism, Ryo Fukui, now in New York, delves into the essence of bop with the rhythm section of his mentor, Barry Harris.
Fukui passed away in 2016, leaving behind only five albums. This is his fourth, recorded in 1999. Recorded in New York with his mentor, Barry Harris's rhythm section, Lyle Atkinson (bass) and Leroy Williams (drums), this is a masterpiece that fully conveys Fukui's appeal as a bop pianist. The selection and composition, centered on standards, as well as the playing, are full of enthusiasm and power. With a confident, solid touch, a core of swing, and emotion and poetry permeating his dynamism, this is a vivid sound that evokes Fukui's spirit and determination. A re-performance of his signature song, "Mellow Dream," is also a delight.
