The first analog release of the original soundtrack of the movie Silk.

The soundtrack of the 2007 film directed by Francois Girard. Classical music depicts the various regions of Europe, Egypt, Russia, and Japan where the film takes place. In "First Trip to Japan," the journey across the Siberian snowfields to Japan is expressed with a melancholy melody of strings, a horn section, and the magnificent sound of cymbals, and ends with the exotic sound of a stone flute. The piano piece "Snowy Village" played during the scene where the main character arrives at a village deep in snow has a long reverberation that evokes the density and coldness of the air.

The piano used extensively in this film was recorded at Glenn Gould Studios in Canada. The desolate sound seems to inherit Gould's soul. In "The Girl," a scene in which the protagonist is attracted to a woman he meets in a village, a slow arpeggio piano is intertwined with a fraying violin, and the fraying and pitch fluctuations express the beauty of the Orient, highlighting the beauty of the woman wearing a silk kimono.

Sakamoto created a theme song for each of the three journeys to Japan, and for the second and third journeys, he added variations that responded to the changing circumstances, skillfully creating the rhythm and flow of time throughout the film. Other pieces, such as "Mill Theme" and "Building the Garden," utilize pizzicato and are generally composed in a classical manner, but "Revolution" takes a turn for the worse with its disturbing sound. This soundtrack is a work that allows the listener to fully experience the diversity of Ryuichi Sakamoto's musical output. Heavyweight double LP set.
